8 bit pixel art using camera

Mon Jul 11, 2016 8:38 am

Recently seen this new 'edu toy' and it looks really cool. Was wondering how hard it would be to make something similar:

What I would like to do is to create a physical 8 x 8 grid of cubes, scan the colours and positions using the picamera and then output the image on the Sense hat LED matrix.

I've seen the blob detector code for recognising colours - would that work with some tweaking?
Fairly new to this sort of thing so any help would be appreciated!

It can be easily done if the block receiver doesn't move, in this case you'll just have to focus on very precise pixels, and see what they contain, that shouldn't be complicated and can do a good first alpha version. Then you'll be abble to add something as a marker of a different color in the cube receiver so that you'll know exactly where is all the cube receiver.
Just try first with image and then switch to video stream and see what you got, because in the end, video is only image stream, so may be by sampling the stream you'll just can then use the algorithm you'll have done in the first place.
