Hi Folks,

I'm new to the Pi and thought I'd start out with a project to create a Flickr-enabled photo frame. I'm hoping to recycle the display off of an old photo frame, but can't find any useful info on the B+ DSI connector and whether or not I'll be able to connect it to the display directly or using an adapter

I'd be grateful for any help you can give me, even if it's just the bad news that I can't use this screen and will have to fork out for another. Of course, what I'm really hoping for is that someone can help me get the two devices working together...

The DSI connector is a proprietary output and will only work with the official raspberry pi display. It isn't possible to connect your display to the DSI port.

If you are lucky, you may be able to find an HDMI or SPI driver board for your display but you'd need to trawl the internet for one specifically designed for your screen.

I had a nasty feeling that this was the case - thanks for confirming it.

Any ideas on a good source of hdmi driver boards?

This one should be able to do composite video (no HDMI) and VGA.
You can search for driver: KYV-N2 V1

Thanks Laurens. I guess this means I'd have to add an HDMI to VGA adapter AND a VGA cable into the mix as well. Suddenly the dream I had of bolting a PI on the back of the screen and having a neat, slimline solution is turning into a nightmare of cables, adapters and PCBs...

No, the Raspberry pi has composite video output. So you can use that.
