Looking for ideas or resources on adding HD/SDI video output

Fri May 15, 2015 2:09 pm

Hello all,

I am looking for ideas or resources on adding HD/SDI output to my Raspberry Pi. I have the original Pi, but I can get the latest one if that is what is needed. I just want to output 720 60p or 1080 30i video to use as a testing source.

I know I could just buy an HDMI in to HD/SDI out converter for $60 to $100 like the Lenkeng LKV368, but thats no fun.

I have been unable to find a specific add on board for the Pi that does such a thing. Maybe someone knows of an add on out there. Let me know if you have any ideas. Thank you in advance.

hello,

definitely for the moment there are no add-ons boards doing this. Broadcasters are just a few people so i think it could be not cheap to develop such a thing.
i did a lot of rpi hd-sdi for some uses; you can use a small hdmi to hd-sdi (like this one http://www.amazon.fr/XCSOURCE®-SD-SDI-C ... B00MG7TGDC), after that you unpack the electronic board and make a new enclosure for your pi and modify the /boot/config.txt to have the proper resolution. and you're done ! for less than 50$ !

cheers

Hello!
I'm also looking for informations about that. My goal is to input a SDI signal in the pi, add some effects on it and then output it as SDI

so far the only thing i found is that guy work :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cihlZ3OaELM who did a SDI capture card for the pi.

but then let's assume i'm able to get that card and get the signal IN, i didn't find a way to get it out as SDI yet. so i thought maybe with a HDMI to SDI converter but i only find expensive black magic gears and the one mentioned above doesn't seem to be available anywhere!

any ideas ?

would it be difficult/impossible to build a SDI output for the PI ?

An HDMI to HD-SDI converter is no good if you want to do 608/708 closed captions, since HDMI does not support CC (only open captions). So a native HD-SDI output would be desired, but maybe impossible? I suppose Omxplayer would then have to be made to embed the CC data in the outgoing video.
