Make an "Internet Of Things" Pi with 3 commands

Tue Feb 03, 2015 7:49 pm

I have done some coding turning a Raspberry Pi into an "Internet Of Things" device. When using the installation script, 3 commands are sufficient to do the conversion:

Code: Select all

wget -N http://www.homofaciens.de/download/IOT/InternetOfThings.sh
chmod u+x InternetOfThings.sh
./InternetOfThings.sh
After the installation you can access the GPIOs through a browser interface using scripts running on my Internet server:
http://robospatium.de/IOT/IOT-Status.pl

It is simple to install and use, but experimental software. The story behind the installation script (including the source code) is written on my project page:
http://www.homofaciens.de/technics-comp ... navion.htm

The video gives a short overview of what can be done with the software:

What do you think about my tiny project? Did the installation end with no errors (I have done the installation from a fresh install of raspbian)? Suggests for improvements? Can you access your Raspberry from a smartphone (my mobile phone isn't smart enough to access the IOT-Pi)?

Cool video!
I have no experience with GPIOs but can I use your software only with a camera and can I use a USB cam, too? I don't have a Raspberry Pi camera module.
Transferring remote pictures from my Raspi is what I am looking for.

Thanks!
Yes, as written in the source code of "IOT-Raspberry.pl", you can use avconv with USB cameras instead of raspistill. I have added some code lines to the installation script. You can chose whether there is a camera connected to your Raspberry or not and if it is, what type of camera to use. You can also enable "camera only" by what the GPIO buttons are removed from the browser interface and your Raspberry Pi is turned into a remotely operated camera.
The images are removed from my server as soon as they are transmitted to your browser of at least after 10 minutes if the transfer did not succeed.

Have fun!

Great! My remotely controlled Pi camera works fine! There is just one thing: The quality of the transmitted images is poor which is possibly caused by the very cheap USB camera I am using.
Thanks for updating the installation script!
