Re: DS18B20 and 30-Jan firmware

Just as an update to my issue I actually have nothing listed in /sys/bus/w1/devices/, not even w1_bus_master1. I believe this should at least be there even if there are no temp sensors attached, is that correct?

Hello,

Did anybody find a solution for this problem about not seening the 28-* directory?
I did some rewiring and upgrades but still no success. Only those diretories 00-* that changes their names

Hi all,

I managed to solve my problem with not seeing the 28-###### directory. Problem was bad wiring.
Now it works like a charm :)

I have the same issue.

I was running an old kernel and have recently upgraded to raspbian 4.1.7+

sudo modprobe w1-gpio;
sudo modprobe w1-therm;

ls /sys/bus/w1/devices/
00-800000000000
w1_bus_master1

dmesg shows:

w1_master_driver w1_bus_master1: Family 0 for 00.800000000000.8c is not registered

This tells me my wiring is right the device just isn't being recognized or in the right 'family'.

Any thoughts?

Help would be greatly appreciated!

It's not done that way any more.

Read /boot/overlays/README and add a dtoverlay line to your config.txt.

Hi,
I am completely new to the pi. I got a pi 2 recently and have carried out several basic tasks with the breadboard and programming with no problems. however I have been trying to set up a DS18B20 temp sensor without any success at all. I have tried the config.txt revisions and rewired it several times in different positions on the breadboard but still nothing. When I list devices nothing at all is shown. Is this a wiring fault? I have read that some sensors have the wrong coloured wiring- is this likely. Anybody got any other ideas?

I have the same problem. I've tried 2 DS18B20 sensors and all of the many solutions(?) found on line. All with no success, the sensors are not found. I am also using a pi 2.

I am also having issues getting the Raspberry Pi to recognize the DS18B20 sensor. I have read multiple posts, checked my wiring over and over, updated the config.txt file with suggested entries, used multiple sensors and resistors, but still only see a "w1_bus_master1" entry when checking the /sys/bus/w1/devices/ directory following the issue of "sudo modprobe w1-gpio" and "sudo mod probe w1-therm" commands. Firmware and OS are at most recent versions on my Pi B. At my wits end. Any suggestions?

Just in case anyone else winds up here from Google like I did...

The problem I ran into was that I also use lirc on the same rpi, which requires it's own dtoverlay. I had tried to add the w1-gpio to the same dtoverlay line in /boot/config.txt and it only loaded the first one (lirc). The fix was to use a separate dtoverlay line for each.

Code: Select all

dtoverlay=lirc-rpi,gpio_out_pin=22,gpio_in_pin=23
dtoverlay=w1-gpio,gpiopin=4

This thread is superseded by the 2017-02-16 Raspbian release.

Try using that with the right overlay (plain 1-wire or 1-wire with parasitic power) defined in your /boot/config.txt

Pls check the pullup resistor in between sensor data pin and supply voltage. if you did not use 4.7Kohm resister. you will not get the sensor address.
secondly, check config file using sudo nano /boot/config.txt you have to write dtoverlay = w1-gpio
hope you will ok.
