Z-Wave Home Automation

Wed May 07, 2014 2:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I want to build a Z-Wave network for a student project. I ordered some sensors working in 866 MHz and have a Raspberry Pi B for controlling the network. I've found out a module called NRF905 which can talk around this frequency range (http://www.ebay.fr/itm/NRF905-Radio-Tra ... 1169100758) and a USB stick which is made by Aeon labs (http://store.incontrolzwave.com/aeon-la ... r-series-2)

Here is my questions :

- Is it possible to control a z-wave network by a controller program that is not supplied by companies who is producing compatible devices?

I would be glad if there is an experienced of you can suggest me anything.
Thank you so much in advance

If you can program in C++, you can use the OpenZWave library to write your own application. It supports the Aeon Labs Z-Stick2 controller. For more information, go to http://www.openzwave.com/

Hello,

I recommend you to use the GPIO module called Razberry. I have a raspberry pi with this module, the Openremore controller software installed and many devices connected: fibaro plug, fibaro switch, fibaro RGBW and Aeon presence detector. All of them working perfectly.

I have installed also the gnokii software and have a gsm module connected usign the usb port and use the Aeon sensor as an alarm intrussion detection. It send me and SMS message when the alarm is armed.

Thank you for all your answers. They're helpful

My concern is to write a software to talk with devices, and it occurs another question how to make authentification in the z-wave network? When I need to pair my hardware with sensors on the market how would they talk to each other. In the beginning is there a verification process?

It seems a bit confusing for me your answers are clarifiying

Thanks again,
Oguz
