Remote Cronjobs?

Mon Feb 17, 2014 4:18 pm

Hi all,

I am working on an automation project using Cron. Is it possible to schedule cronjobs over the Internet? I would like to receive input from a website to schedule a cronjob to run a python script (that turns on lighting over GPIO). Any ideas/suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

You can achieve this with some coding.

On the server side, you take input from a website and save it somewhere (eg. in a file). Cronjob each minute polls the server if the command (information about the web input) exists. If yes, it turns on (or off) the light.

There are various possibilities how to implement this... I'd pick PHP for web side and use wget for polling. Python can then parse the downloaded data and perform related command.

Best wishes, Ivan Zilic.
Running out of GPIO pins and/or need to read analog values?
