Newb sensory

Tue May 29, 2012 7:20 pm

as per my post on the weather thread I am total newb when it comes to sensing and I feel that the discussion is diving to far into the deep end of the pool for me.

Could some one point me in the direction of where / how I can learn about a simple temperature sensor to start with? (I need help with the whole suite of things ie hardware and software  )

To begin with you could learn a bit about thermistors try something like this http://www.technologystudent.com/elec1/therm1.htm
Once you've worked on some simple circuits using them then you could think about passing values to your pi.
I would pop to somewhere like Maplin and get some cheap "breadboard" and jumpers, assorted resistors, LEDs and a battery + connector. And a thermistor. Then have a play.

Don't forget a heat gun and some freeze spray.
Very handy to get quick temperature extremes.
