Simulation software for circuits to begin using GPIO ?

Sat Jan 11, 2014 5:29 pm

Hey guys!

I'm currently looking for a good software to simulate circuits before I make them, and as I am a beginner I would prefer if this circuit told me if something was wrong (f.e. resistance too low/high, risk of damging stuff, or simply mistakes in the circuits itself)
It would also be cool if it was actually done for the raspberry pi and had some kind of extra function, but that's just in case it does exist.

Thank you ! :D
Cheers !

I don't know any of the "regular" simulators (I last used SPICE perhaps twenty years ago) but there was a digital simulator mentioned here a while ago, "Smartsim". I don't think it does full analogue circuit design but it looks lile it's handy to tinker with logic gates and so on:

I'm using a $10 app called icircuit and it's quite good particularly on a tablet. It is however $10, I found it worthwhile so I recommend it, has oscilloscope and it's easy to use.

Thank you both, although the first one looks good, it's not what I'm searching for, but I'm going to give a look at the iCircuit ;)
Cheers !

Check out http://falstad.com/circuit/ once you create a circuit you can export it to a text file and save it to be able to import it again later. Have you done any circuit simulation with the Pi? I am looking to do some testing but not sure where to start with the Pi.
