Autonomous Quadcopter moved by rpi

Thu Aug 01, 2013 1:24 pm

Hello,
I'm starting a project to have a Quadcopter moved by raspberry pi.
The final idea is to be able to pilot the drone from my laptop.
The street is long, also considering I'm pretty new in python, programming, in rpi, in elettronics.
It'a a nice challenge!

In my blog I started to publish some theoretical aspects and setting up.

Initially I started to wrote it in italian, but I'm now in translation phase to have everythig in english too.

Let's see...

Waiting for the hardware still on a boat along some ocean, I m going on with the development of the software. For the moment I published two posts about how to create in python a class motor and a class quadcopter. Soon the last part of this sw where also the user interface is completed.

Things are going on...
On the blob now you can find:
*how to set up the necessary software on rpi
*how to control a brushless motor
*how to get data from a gyroscope and accelerometer (MPU6050) ,with i2c interface and filtering

The dev is going on.
I'm now in the first testing of the whole quadcopter.
In particular I'm going to install 2 motors on the frame , link the frame on a fixture in order to have only one degree of freedom (roll) and than merge the motor management, the IMU sensor measuraments, and the PID control loop.

Bello vedere altri italiani !

Ho dato un'occhiata al progetto, ai (molti) dati raccolti, e sinceramente, buona fortuna !

PS : Sarebbe bello avere qualche video in piu di tutte le foto ;)
Cheers !

I've been developing in python a system that allows myself to use an xbox one remote and enter inputs to my computer. This is sent across to the raspberry pi and interpreted by another python program on the rpi. Ever thought of implementing that with a quad copter? I'm going to soon find a way to get a video feed from raspberry pi to the computer. So basically once that's sorted, I'm going to build a quad-copter.

I do like your approach to the task on your blog. Good Job :)
-Benge, keep focused.
