Alternative to the TellStick from Telldus

I'm looking to set up a home automation server and most of the nicest solutions I've seen use the TellStick from Telldus. However they are hard to get hold of in the UK and I was wondering if anyone knows of an alternative device that works with the Pi.

I found the RFXCOM RFXtrx433 but it seems that people are having issues with it crashing the Pi.

Any ideas?
