remote control for Lego NXT running NXT-G

Tue Mar 19, 2013 12:37 pm

Hi all,
I was just wondering if there is a sensible place here to post programs as a downloadable resource? The scouts wrote a (very) simple remote control programme with Python-NXT to use mouse buttons to send BT messages to a Lego NXT robot to remote control it as part of a project we were showing at the Big Bang fair last w/e. We had lots of visitors that had RasPis and/or lego robots who asked about it and whether they could get hold of it as a starting point to doing their own thing (lots of people had got the hardware and didn't really know what they wanted to do or how to start, and a little RC project is a nice intro with a cool end result we think!)
Is their a programs/projects download area? It would be nice to also attach the NXT-G program (.rbt file)?
We don't host a download site ourselves. I could just attach the files to a post in the projects topic but it would be a bit lost amongst ongoing questions/answers/problems/solutions
Thanks!
Alan

Maybe you could create a page on the wiki, perhaps linked from the http://elinux.org/RPi_Education page... or the software page, or create a lego page off the projects page...

If you're going to do so, it's probably best to ask someone there first. (I don't look at the wiki very often and don't know if it's OK to post code examples there.)

Lots of people post their projects up on github.com.
If it ain't broke, take it apart and see how it works.

Github looks fine - I thought there might be something in RaspberryPi.org ...

Actually you could perhaps ask Liz - the foundation definitely will not want to be offering free hosting for everyone's commercial ventures, but there might be a way to offer a central location for a few examples like this. Especially for a front page group such as yours. Or if not (they have to account for their costs I'm sure) she might be able to recommend something.

Thanks guys - we're sorted! The GitHub guys gave us an edu subscription so we'll put in in a public inventory there under our organisation BoreattonEngineeringAndScienceTeam (we wanted BEAST to save typing but someone else is impersonating us :) ). I emailed Liz but havnt heard back yet. If she wants we can copy it somewhere here, but we can send the GitHub link to anyone reading this or contacting us from the BigBangFair. GitHub was very speedy sorting us out a free registration so a good way to go for educational groups!
