Robot with L293, atmega8 using SPI communication

Sun Feb 24, 2013 2:59 pm

Here is my attempt at building a simple robot from the ground up. Circuit diagrams are included in the link. Uses atmega8 + L293 motor driver + dc motors + webcam + wifi + 2000ma 5V battery + 4.8V motor battery.

Nice job :o
there is a reason why you chose to use SPI and not the simple UART ?

Well, my thinking was that SPI was simple and that eventually I could connect a few SPI devices. I *think* if you do the clock select line manually you could do this for more than 2 chips (raspi has only 2 chip select lines accessible by the driver). SPI is supposed to be the fastest as well (over UART and I2C), but I might not need that speed at all. I have a SPI expander chip that I might use.

Maybe I will learn that there was a better way.
