Easy & Cheap DIY Arduino add-on for the Raspberry Pi

Thu Feb 14, 2013 1:43 pm

I just came across this: http://www.paperpcb.dernulleffekt.de/do ... perduinopi

It's a stripboard Arduino that mounts onto the Raspberry Pi. He calls it a paper PCB, but that's a little misleading.

It's worth a glance if only for the clever trick he uses for the header socket -- no stripboard cuts at all.

I made that a few weeks ago but couldn't get alamode to work and upload sketches

nice guy wolfgang been helping me as much as he can via email

made a few of my own paper pcbs as well which I shared with wolfgang

got the alamode working and it works really well as a Arduino RasPi Sheild

its a nice alternative for anyone wanting only Arduino on the gertboard as its smaller and works just like a Arduino and can be undocked and plugged into a 5v line

in fact I managed to use it undocked and upload sketches using a ATMEGAu8 FTDI
and run it without the pi

now to redesign it so the pin holes correspond to a real arduino for shield use

I'm confused! I thought the whole idea of the alamode was that it let you plug in arduino shields when the alamode is mounted on the raspberry pi?

If I remember correctly, the Arduino has an annoying feature that the I/O headers are not separated by multiples of 0.1 inches.

So it is impossible to build one on stripboard and use shields.

...unless you use arduino offset headers!
note: I may or may not know what I'm talking about...

Offset headers I thought that is what needle nose pliers were for? :D
