Connecting to UHF RFID reader via TTY

I want to keep track of UHF RFID stickers. I'm hoping to do this using a Raspberry Pi zero attached to an UHF RFID reader. I acquired this reader:

intending to use it over TTY via this Python library:

however, after digging into it a bit more (but not before already purchasing some of the components) I've realized that the voltage for the TTY pins on the Raspberry Pi and on the reader take different voltages (maximum 3.3v on the pi and minimum 3.5v on the reader). From what I've read, I should be able to solve this problem with a level shifter. So I've ordered this:

However, I'm not entirely sure how to use the level shifter/if it's as simple as it seems. What I intend to do is:
  1. Wire the 5v pin on the pi to one breadboard positive rail
  2. Wire the 3.3v pin on the pi to the other breadboard positive rail
  3. Wire the 5v breadboard positive rail to the VCC pin on the reader
  4. Wire the 5v breadboard positive rail to the HV pin on the level shifter
  5. Wire the 3.3v breadboard positive rail to the LV pin on the level shifter
  6. Wire a GND pin on the pi to a breadboard negative rail
  7. Wire the breadboard negative rail to a GND pin on the reader
  8. Wire the TX pin on the pi to LV1 pin on the level shifter
  9. Wire the RX pin on the pi to LV2 pin on the level shifter
  10. Wire the TX pin on the reader to HV2 (to connect TX on the reader to RX on the pi)
  11. Wire the RX pin on the reader to HV1 (to connect TX on the pi to RX on the reader)
Does this make sense? Am I missing anything?
