A little more context, I am looking to take a game that I am running on the monitor screen and have the Pi "watch" the screen and look for a certain pattern/ picture on a specific part of the monitor and then type/make some tally mark in a excel type program. After which, I can take the program and run some analytics. The major problem currently Is getting the Pi to "watch" the screen.

I know that you can capture an image of a portion of the screen with Java. I assume that other languages have methods to do that as well.
