Robotics project PLEASE HELP!

Wed Apr 17, 2019 9:53 pm

So I started building my first robot the other day and I got this Raspberry motor shield that has no documentation I wired the motors to motor 1 and 2 but whenever I run the code to detect the motors they aren't detected and I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong the board works and the light comes on any one have any ideas?

My guess is the board needs an external supply as well as the Pi GPIO output esp. as it has connection for this :D

From here the GPIO can only deliver 50mA in total

Where did you get the board from - they may have a web site?
Need Pi spray - these things are breeding in my house...

Not sure if this is what you need but it looks as though it may be - https://github.com/sbcshop/MotorShield

Looking at the schematic digram in the link posted you need to connect a 12VDC power supply to the indicated terminal to power the motors from, making sure to connect it the right way round.

The 5v from the pi will only drive the electronics/control circuit and not the motors.

Wow! A big thank you to everyone! I'm ordering a separate power supply for the board now the one I had wasn't out putting enough power. :D
Does anyone have any suggestions for a portable power supply that can output 12vdc?

A portable power supply would be a battery. For example a lead acid battery or a NIMH battery from the RC world will do the job. And of course a lipo battery will work also, but you need to have some protection with it.

Have you tried running the motor test program Test_Motor.py on the GitHub page MrEngerman posted the link to.

That should just drive all motors in a test pattern.
