Measure ball speed

Fri Dec 08, 2017 5:18 pm

Hello,

I am starting a new project where I would like to measure the speed of something very similar to a baseball.
I would like to put my device behind the pitcher and measure the top speed.

Options I have considered so far:

Camera
  • As the ball speed might reach 100 mph, this is not an option for me.
Radar So my question is: Which sensors do you recommend to measure the speed of the ball?

Best,
Pete

I don't have a good answer for you on this but I just got a hammacher catalog in the mail...www.hammacher.com... and it had a baseball speed estimator. If they have it others must have it cheaper but even at their prices it would probably cost less in money, time and effort than trying to do it with RPi. They call it a "Speed Sensing Pitching Trainer" and price it at $129 US. It is a net affair that goes where a catcher would and provides a target zone for the pitcher. If you have your heart set on doing it with an RPi, good luck to you. It does provide an idea of a different approach to the problem.
