Touch Screen & Motor Controller

Mon Oct 23, 2017 4:24 am

I'm working on a project for my telescope and want to use a touchscreen (two buttons) to control a stepper motor. I'm having trouble though; the touch screen I have requires the GPIO pins which makes them unavailable for the stepper motor HAT. Has anyone else encountered a similar problem? Do you have a solution?

Ha Ha Ha Yes to find screens that don't plug down over your GPIO pins stopping you from attaching any other device r had to come by I have found only 1 myself that I use all the time. It runs off lead HDMI (I found a short HDMI lead of 30cm on ebay) the HDMI lead will both provide power for the screen as well as the video signal. If you want to use the touch function then you plug a usb lead from the screen to the usb port and the RPi will detect it as a mouse. google geeekpi 5" HDMI 800*480 here it is in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=554XpnN7cw4&t=4s

Attach a female header to your pi like this one https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/2x20 ... y-pi-2-b-a 11mm version
then cut the pins not used by your screen so that they don't connect to the screen connector allowing you to use them as normal gpio I/O pins.
