Alexa on Pi3

Mon Oct 09, 2017 4:24 pm

Hi Guys,

I just got my first Pi (Pi3) and I installed Amazon's Alexa on it. Now, it looks to be working fine but since my USB mic is not working, I cant test it out.
Is there any command I can run from the terminal to check if I can hear anything from Alexa?

Also, another question - I want to move to making my home automation system on the same Pi. Do you think it's possible to just build on top of the existing Alexa config ?

Apologies for the dumb questions - but like I said - I got my first Pi couple of days ago.

Cheers,
K

Unfortunately I have not yet installed Alexa.

Easiest would be to get a USB mic that works. You'll eventually need one.

In the meantime, ensure your audio works. Go here and test that basic sound works without Alexa.
https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentation/usage/audio/

Presumably it will work then with Alexa. I imagine Alexa tutorials should have a command that tests just audio out, before another command that tests audio input (mic). The Google assistant AIY software has these two commands, specifically for this purpose.

Good luck.
