Power Control of PC (power on/off)

Hi,

I'm trying to control the power of a PC, through shorting the power pins on an ATX motherboard.
I'm looking for the simplest solution possible.
I found this guide:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Pi-Powe ... /?ALLSTEPS
And I actually tried it and it worked!

My question is, am I damaging the motherboard or the pi? I know there's some discrepancy between the 3.3V of the pi and the 5V of the ATX motherboard, is that true? will that be a problem?

Hi.

From looking at the site you linked to, it seems that you are connecting you Pi GPIO directly to the switch pins on your PC motherboard.
I would NOT do this you are mixing 5v and 3.3v you could well damage you Pi, your PC or both.
If you want to do this than use some small relays driven by the Pi GPIO and connect the contact to the switch pins on the motherboard, this way each circuit is isolated from the other.
