Don't know if this will help you but you may want to try TI's packet sniffer software http://www.ti.com/tool/packet-sniffer

ok I wanted to say thanks for the links but now I am totally lost. If anyone can help me out with the decoding it would be great. also if it helps the sensers are from a simplisafe alarmsystem.

Thanks,
yonu

The only help we can give is solely based on the information you provide.

before being able to decode a signal, you need to know how the signal is made.
for example, is it an OOK signal?
did you manage to record it and graph it?

THEN you can try to write some code to decode it.
It also depends on the hardware you are using to receive the signal.
I tried with a chinese cheap receiver (something like 1€ on ebay) and could get an amazing range of.. 5cm

so, look deeper at the signal, than come back :)
