IM looking to setup a camera in my car that will boot and then take a pic of the driver and upload on my wifi before leaving the driveway. It a classing car so atleast 2 mins.
I'M considering the micro no ir cam, Does anybody know of a small usb cam ( say something i could mount in a climate control vent? possible usb pinhole cam

Or alternately as im running motion on another raspberry pi in the home for my Ip cams, is there a simple way to get the 2nd raspberry pi and usb cam/noir cam to function as an ip cam that boots quickly and runs of existing ip cam network

Also, be aware you might find a cheap dash cam that can do this that costs less than Pi & camera & accessories.

You could start out with a mobile phone in your car that is running and being pinged by an application on your network. If the ping doesn't work, something has gone wrong, perhaps the car is stolen. That gives you potentially information about whether or not the car is gone but not before it is gone. At least you can sleep at night knowing what hasn't happened yet.

You could set up some sort of ultrasound motion connection inside the car and then have that information sent to the network constantly. You could have the phone streaming pictures all the time and then you probably would get a picture of whoever got into the car although they might be wearing a ski mask and it might be pretty dark.

As with anything security related, you probably need to build it in layers because something will go wrong and usually just when you needed it to actually work right. So motion video outside, high res archived anything interesting, whatever you can do inside the car, the car's own alarm system, etc.

Think I have the software side sorted out, im moving on the hardware and power supply.
can anybody recommend a timed relay to keep the raspberry pi on and uploading for about 4 mins after receiving power before shutting down?
i have a constant source of power from cigarette lighter wiring( just manually wiring in 2.5 amp phone car charger) and switch power sources from door light and stereo circuit to control the timed relay.
i want to keep the pi powered on for time between opening door and a few mins while car is started and still in driveway..
