Raspberry Pi program to record continuous high resolution images of night sky

Wed Sep 02, 2020 5:34 pm

Hi!

My friend Jani made a program to Raspberry Pi to capture night sky events with cheap hardware. Thank's to Raspberry PI!

There is 2 versions of program one is free and has image resolution max size 2592 x 1952 pixels. With HQ camera and pro version you can get resolution 4064 x 3030 pixels. The cost of PRO version is 30€

Check out his website here https://sites.google.com/view/meteotuxpi/home

Here's one image with bright meteor taken from my DIY all sky camera with Raspberry Pi and HQ camera. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zPUMY6 ... sp=sharing

Cheers!

what's so special about this program? Doesn't any of the currently existing motion detection solutions do the same?

Hi!

This program doesn't take videos and its doesn't work like motion detection, its all about image stacking and it wont lose a frame when it takes images. And if you look at the image resolutions you cant get same results with any of the motion detection solution software around.

You can example take image in every 10 minutes, that one image then contains every single frame (from 0s to 10min) from the camera and program stacks them together in one image.

This program is purely designed to astronomical use but there is some other uses too like someone did a laboratory bacteria imaging etc.

Well when there's clear night sky in future ill take some 10 minute example images and post here :)

Cheers!
