[Solved] Joining Active Directory domain. No /usr/bin/net.

Fri Feb 06, 2015 6:15 pm

I am trying to join my RPi B+ to an Active Directory domain using the instructions I have written for myself that has worked on every other Debian Wheezy system I have tried it on. But I am running into a problem with this connection.

Running Raspbian and I have installed all the Samba packages I need. One of the Samba packages is supposed to include the command /usr/bin/net. However, that tool hasn't gotten installed.

Does anyone know where else I can get that tool or why Samba on Raspbian may not include it? The man page for net says it is "Tool for administration of Samba and remote CIFS servers." (I got that from one of my other machines (not an RPi)).

I have force reinstalled all Samba packages thinking something might not have installed correctly. No errors. I just don't have the net command available to me.

Found the answer in the #raspbian IRC channel.

Installing samba-common-bin was the missing piece.
