help! problem with dyndns server

i am trying to set up a dyn dns server, but every time i connect to my site, my router settings appear. i have set up port forwarding on port 80 (http) and 443 (https). what have i done wrong?

You need to forward in your router "HTTP Server" (port 80) to IP address of your RPi, or to RPi as a name on your network. Most likely you have put IP address of your router which is usually 192.168.1.254
In this case I would assign fixed IP address for your RPi. You can do it either in your RPi or in the router.

actually, they are forwarded to my pi (192.168.1.41). I think i may have set up the static ip on my pi wrong. ifsomeone has a sample for an edimax 7811un dongle on an open network that would be great

I've a similar situation, though I use no-ip for my dynamic DNS (not that this matters.)

When, in my browser, I navigate to "www.mydomainname.com", I reach my Pi. But, when I enter only "mydomainname.com", leaving out the "www", I reach the login screen for my wireless router.

For some DnyDns Setups it may sucessfully to Setup
an own chaching DNS server . I.e on your PI
Change the Routers DNS to the Pi and your PC´s wold solve most issues.

I use here an Fritz!box and this way helped me have an own local domain on local dns
Eh.. and anyway no more DNS Filtering then by the provider

I know this may sound silly but most ISP's run a firewall for you, you can usually disable them.. be 100% sure!

But if the OP, and I, are reaching our routers (from outside our internal networks) haven't we already made it past any ISP firewall? I'm assuming 4thdwarf's trouble is access from outside, as it is my case (though "trouble" may be to strong a word for my issue.)

I'd try port 8080 for the Pi , perhaps the router plays
better with that.

I use my router to reserve an IP for my RasPi by MAC address. The router is set to log into dyndns. Port 80 is forwarded to the RasPi.

Dyndns has to be renewed every 30 days now, or you have to pay for a yearly subscription. You have to go to their site every 30 days and reactivate it.

You need to disable "wan administration" on your router, or what ever your your manufacture calls it. Basically the router's admin interface is bound on port 80 to your public ip.
