Bluetooth & network issue

I've hit a problem tryiing to implement Bluetooth on the Pi.
1 Everything works, until ...
2, The bt speaker is switched off, then
3. After a few seconds, the Pi disappears from the network - the ethernet is still transmitting (according to router lights) but the Pi is lost in space!
Anybody got any ideas, tips?
