How to pass public ip from wifi to eth0? Bridge mode

Fri Sep 13, 2019 2:36 pm

Dear Forum,

Please explain how to pass public ip (without nat) from wifi to ethernet?

I have an open wifi network with good speed nearby which I want to use to increase speed and load balance my own internet.

When setting RasPi as wifi bridge, it increases the speed but I can't open any webpage. Is it a double NAT problem?

I was not able to find any good guide about this, please help.

Thank you!

When you connect to the hotspot, your WiFi adapter is in STA (client) mode.

It is not possible to bridge a STA. You can only route with it.

You can bridge a WiFi interface in AP mode only.

I'm not a network professional, so to me it's the same :))) I just need to understand how to do that:

Wifi Internet <--> several Raspberry Pi <--> load balancing router <--> main router with the main Internet.

Start with one Pi and the ISP box.

Set the Pi as a router between its wifi client interface and its ethernet interface.
Configure ethernet on the Pi and the ISP box so that the load balancer is happy. Load balancing is a can of worms, follow the user manual precisely.

Your wifi link probably shows poor latency compared to the ISP link, the LB may balance less than you expect.
