How to fry an XboxOne?

An XboxOne, or someone with that hostname is constantly showing up on my arp table. I did a MAC address vendor lookup and this one is from microsoft. microsoft makes Xbox right?

$ arp -a
XboxOne (192.168.1.214) at b4:ae:2b:4e:bc:c5 [ether] on wlan0
router.asus.com (192.168.1.1) at d0:17:c2:ea:00:80 [ether] on wlan0

I have set a rule in iptables to drop packets from that ip address but still don't like it appearing on my arp table.

Does an XboxOne have any vulnerabilities I can exploit with my pi?

one usually fry using hot oil :D

kidding aside, try enabling MAC filtering on your router to prevent "unauthorized access" thru your router

I live in a rental house with 9 tenants. The router belongs to the landlord. I think another tenant owns the XboxOne. I also constantly get this on my arp table:

$ arp -a
router.asus.com (192.168.1.1) at d0:17:c2:ea:00:80 [ether] on wlan0
? (192.168.1.127) at ec:f0:0e:75:6e:5e [ether] on wlan0

MAC address vendor lookup on that one shows it is a device from ABOCOM company in Taiwan.

I tried installing arptables but that didn't work on my pi.

I'm going to assume that of the nine tenants, only you are supposed to be connecting to this router?

All 9 of us are allowed to connect to the router.

Perhaps I should upgrade the OS on this Pi3B+ to the new buster and try arptables again. A terminal login screen shows I have Raspbian GNU/Linux 9. Comments or ideas?

There are no remote exploits that will kill an Xbox. Even if there was, you shouldn't mess with stuff you don't own or have permission to. How would you like it if one of the other tenants decided that they don't like your RPi and wanted to destroy it?

The Xbox and other devices appearing in your ARP table will be most likely due to them doing broadcasts for things like UPnP discovery. It is all harmless stuff.

Stop worrying about the ARP table, configure the firewall on your RPi so only your devices can access it or buy your own router so you have your own private subnet. Pick one.

hehehe... connecting to a shared network and complaining about seeing other devices...

the only solution is to get your own private network (as trying to "exorcise" others out of the shared network might have you kicked out of the place)

new router, a lawyer, or a new place... which one can you afford?.......the choice is yours....
