SSH over wifi with No Internet

Fri May 17, 2019 2:04 am

Hi guys,

I've got a pi running as an access point for a project.
These pi's are installed in enclosures, I've set up a wireless access point that broadcasts so that we can ssh into it and make any changes that we may need to do.
The access point uses dnsmasq and hostapd with a guide from this github:
https://github.com/SurferTim/documentat ... s-point.md

I can't seem to ssh into the pi over wifi from my mac or a windows laptop.
I've changed the username and deleted pi so Im using ssh [email protected]<ip/24>
Not sure if I need to include the /24 for the port but it doesn't work either way just brings back an error or timeout.
SSH is enabled on the pi via raspi-config and my new user is sudo privilege as well (basically the same as Pi but different name)

Is there something additional I need to setup or configure?

The /24 does not set the port - that is normally used to set a subnet mask on an IP address.

To use a given port on SSH, you would use Thus would use port 24 rather then the default port of 22

Are you sure you have the IP of the Pi correct?
Can you try and put the result up here fir all to see? This turns the verbose logging on and shows the steps the ssh client is going through to connect.

No need to hide it addresses if you are using internal ones - they cannot be reached from outside your network.
Need Pi spray - these things are breeding in my house...

Thanks Andyroo

I've set a static IP of 192.168.0.10 and I've used ifconfig to confirm this

I'm away from the pi tonight but I'll do that command tomorrow and post the output

Appreciate it mate

You could also specify a host name and just [email protected] -p 24

goto raspi-config and in the network options there will be hostname to edit.

Saves typing out a long ip each time.
