Ethernet Adapter RPi Zero Problems

Hi,

I'm trying to connect a stack of Raspberry Pi Zero's (50) through a network switch. I'm using an USB ethernet adapter (10/100 Mbit Realtek 8152 based). Most Zero's appear to function fine everytime, but some Pis randomly don't start up well. I don't think it's a power problem, there is sufficient supply with good cabling. I have also not measured voltage drops.

I checked dmesg while it started up well, and I also logged dmesg when the startup was not successful (and the Pi didn't come online). I will post both logs. The problem seems to be:

Your logs seem to suggest a USB subsystem problem, but other than that...

1) is it always the SAME Pis that have this error?
You mention that some Pis randomly don't start as expected... is it always the same Pis that fail to start (i.e. does Pi #1 always work but Pi #2 sometimes works and sometimes fails?)

2) Are you moving Pis around in your rig are is the SAME Pi always in the same location?
i.e. does the fault follow physical location (note location may not always fail, but do failures always happen at given physical locations? has the fault been shown to happen at ALL locations?)

3) Are you moving uSD cards around?
i.e. does the fault condition only happen on SOME uSD cards but not others?

4) What happens if you only run a stack of 5 Pis - do you still get the fault
i.e. is this a scale problem (power supply / decoupling / hold-up / cross talk)?

What we are trying to do here is to narrow down the possible conditions causing the fault...

Did you find a solution to the problem? I think I'm seeing the same issue with the Realtek 8152B, a hub (either FE2.2s (Terminus Tech FE1.1s clone) or HS8836 based) and the Zero. It must be somehow linked to the Realtek 8152B and probably some wiring issue in the hub or the ethernet adapter.

To answer RattusRattus' questions above:

1) I'm seeing the issue on any Raspberry Pi Zero I tried. It just seems like it's not 100% reproducible, but affects a large portion of cold boots.

2) Kind of answered by 1)

3) Tried multiple SD cards.

4) Issue occurs even for a single Pi Zero as in my case.
