Backup Server

Mon Nov 19, 2012 10:55 am

Hi

I was wondering if anyone had hooked an external drive to a pi and used it as a backup server for their other computers? If anyone has could you list the software used?

Thanks everyone
Matt

I have a 2TB external hdd connected to the Pi and shared with NFS and use simple backup (http://sourceforge.net/projects/sbackup/) for automated backups from all the laptops in our house.

I have a 500GB HDD hooked up via a powered USB hub sharing files via DLNA server for my Movies and a samba server for my PC(both Linux and Windows) and android stuff around the house. I haven't actually set up timed backups to it yet, but have done self backups by just moving stuff to it via Samba and it has worked very well for me.

It is a pity that backuppc is not available for the Pi. Great interface and automatic reporting by email of problems. No software needed on clients. I have been using it for 4 years on Ubuntu.

backupPC is open source, you may be able to build it from source...
