Wireless networking, multiple SSIDs, radius, and captive portal

Mon Sep 10, 2018 6:33 pm

I've got a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ with it's builtin wireless adapter. I'm wanting to do several network-related things with it. First broadcast four different SSIDs, two on the 2.4 and 2 on the 5GHZ bands. One of the networks on each band will be accessed via a radius server, the other two should be hooked in to a captive portal setup. I'd ideally like all this to be hosted on the Pi. Is this doable?
Thanks.
Dave.

I don't think so. Pi 3b (not plus) does not support multiple SSIDs AFAIK.

Thanks, this is not on a 3 B but I am working with a 3 B +
Does that change the answer?
And if I can't do multiple SSIDs on one card how or can I get the 3 B + builtin wireless card to broacast on 5GHZ?
If I put in two more wireless adapters can I set them each to their own SSID broadcast?
Thanks.
Dave.

Hi,

When you have two wifi transmitters very close to each other (which would be the case when both are physically on the same machine), there is interference and the capacity drops a lot.

Captive portal with one SSID is certainly doable. Our product is one such.

On a related note, we are looking for volunteer beta testers for our captive portal. Please let us know if interested :-)

Thanks
