WLan to LAN bridge without DHCP and same IP-Address Area

Thu Aug 16, 2018 10:02 am

Hi raspians,

I need help for my project where I wand to use a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with Stretch as a Wireless Client. The Connection should be bridged to the eth0 so that I can connect other clients to give them access to the network.

The IP-Address should be:
Address 172.16.0.66/16
Netmask 255.255.0.0
Gateway and DNS 172.16.0.1

The wlan0 and eth0 should be in the same network. Best way if the raspberry has just one IP for both eth0 and wlan0.

I've tried out so many things. Nothing is working.

I've installed bridge-utils
settings in /etc/network/interfaces
deactivated dhcpcd
but then no wlan connection anymore

I think wlan needs dhcpcd, otherwise I can get no connection. But how can I configure a bridge without dhcpcd?

What is the best way to solve this, or isn't it possible.

I was spending hours to try different ways, so thank you for helping!

I have not found a way to bridge a wireless client to any other interface. The bridge utilities won't allow it using Stretch. You can bridge a wireless AP, but that is accomplished with hostapd.

I don't think so. You can do a search for "raspberry pi WDS". Here is an example:

The issue there is that your fighting the Wi-Fi specifications which only allow for a single device appear as a client (you're trying to have multiple devices behind a single client device).

I think the only ways around this are by using an extension protocol (often proprietary) that allows multiple devices behind a single device (wps might be an option there). Adding various bodges (proxyarp etc), or setting up as a router connection with Nat (but that's what you said you didn't want to do)
