Connecting Pi to WiFi yagi antenna

Sun Jul 08, 2018 2:48 pm

Am I posting in the right subforum? Apologies if not.

I'm playing around with long distance WiFi. I'm seeing just how far I can possibly go.

So, if I want to connect my Pi to a yagi, how would I go about doing so? USB to the driven element of the antenna? Via a short length of coax? If so, can I buy a USB adaptor with a coaxial port? I've looked around, can't find one (yet).

Or is there a better way? Any ideas?

Also, assuming I live in Bolivia (where it is legal), and I crank my TX power to maximum, is there a WiFi adaptor that can handle prolonged high power usage?

What do you think, folks?

Apologies if this is posted in the wrong place or if it's a duplicate.

Talk to you all later.

I know the answer to this one because I've tried it. The answer - depending on power levels I've received 10 km of 3 MB/Sec - that Megabytes Per Second not Megabits from internet source to receiver. No joke! I've worked with Ubiquiti Networks routers and they are pretty amazing. Some notes of caution -
WiFi requires very specially designed antennas as it operates on either the 2.4 Ghz or 5 Ghz spectrum. You need to check your laws before doing anything like this... be warned.

So what do you need to get started?

You need a dish designed for the uWave frequency (2.4 Ghz). This one change alone to can net you some 1-2 km of range.
