Disregard that last comment I posted.

I got the server to start working. But now it can't find my files on my hard drive. Plex can see my hard drive, but it can't see any of the files in it. Including the file names (movies, tv shows ect). When I manually put in the file I want to scan, it just says "there are no items in this library".

But if I go into file manager, I can see everything as well as play the content right on the video player on pi.

What could be the problem.

I apologize for the confusion, and that I wasn't able to reply faster, Please look at troubleshooting 1. It will walk you through how to make the plex recognize your files.

I am following your install thread and keep having issues when it comes to installing plexmediaserver. I'm running Raspbian on a desktop and just set it up. When I go to execute the command, this is my response any help is appreciated. FYI I'm still wet behind the ears to computers!

[email protected]:~ $ sudo apt-get install -t stretch plexmediaserver-installer -y

Reading package lists… Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information… Done
E: Unable to locate package plexmediaserver-installer

I'm also having an issue, might be related to wentles but not sure.

Whenever I try to install Plex via the sudo apt-get install -t jessie plexmediaserver command I get this.

[email protected]:~ $ sudo apt-get install -t jessie plexmediaserver
Loading package list... Done
E: Value »jessie« is void for APT::Default-Release such a release is not avalible in the source

Might've mistranslated something but I hope that gets the jist of it.

I am having the same error message and don't see how to troubleshoot this in the guide. Have you tried
sudo apt-get update -y && apt-get install -t jessie plexmediaserver

I have not but the I think I just had copy pasted it wrong or something? I believe it was this part i messed up.

wget -O - https://dev2day.de/pms/dev2day-pms.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
echo "deb https://dev2day.de/pms/ jessie main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pms.list

Although I got past that I've now hit another wall that is when I come to the part where you have to restart the pi it won't boot up completely. I get to a point where the screen will be black with a flashing dash in the upper left cornor and it doesn't get further than that.

Last time I pulled an update there was a message that dev2day was no longer going to be updating the installer and to switch to the official plex installer.

If you are trying to install now you should ignore the dev2day items and look at the notes below.

Finally, official ARMv7 and ARMv8 Plex packages are available:
https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ 51

The repo on dev2day.de 8 has nearly reached its end of life. Please
upgrade to the official packages as soon as possible. This repository
will disappear sometime in the future.

The migration is simple and your Plex library will be preserved.

First, remove the dev2day.de 8 package:
sudo apt-get remove plexmediaserver-installer

Then, remove the dev2day.de 8 repo, e.g. with:
sudo rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/pms.list

Now, download and install the package from plex.tv 4, e.g.:
sudo dpkg -i plexmediaserver_1.15.1.791-8bec0f76c_armhf.deb

Also, an official Plex repository should be available soon:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/235974 ... ributions/ 135

So I assume I just have to download from the first link yeah? Because when I do and pick Linux > Ubunto/Debian Armv8 and try to run it it fails. That is without doing any of the steps in this guide apart from sudo apt-get update > upgrade.

Simplest way to install now that I'm aware of:

1/ Add key to apt

Code: Select all

wget -q https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-keys/PlexSign.key -O - | sudo apt-key add -
2/ Add source

Code: Select all

echo "deb https://downloads.plex.tv/repo/deb/ public main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/plexmediaserver.list
3/ Update sources

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
4/ Install

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install plexmediaserver
Server should then be accessible at http://localhost:32400/web
