Re: [Tutorial] Using the RasPi as a WiFi hostspot (8 Nov 12)

Very interesting article.
Help to it, I installed successfully my AP on a rasp.
I just wonder if someone could write a tutorial on how to link hostapd to freeradius and mysql.
I tried a lot of things, but nothing is working out of the box.

Hi,

I encountered two problems:
Firstly, udhcpd only works if I restart the service after booting my Raspberry Pi.
Seconldy, I get connected via Wi-Fi to my access point but I have no internet.

Any ideas?

EDIT:
OK, I tried the solution with dnsmasq (followed this tutorial but only the dnsmasq part: https://frillip.com/using-your-raspberr ... h-hostapd/), now I only encounter the first problem, but with dnsmasq instead of udhcpd (which I set to not active)
I feel I am only missing one little thing...

Hi!

I'd like to make a suggestion to the RPi Wireless Hotspot tutorial (http://elinux.org/RPI-Wireless-Hotspot) at "#3 - Configure HostAPD". Add a comment to make the password/passphrase between 8 and 63 characters long. I had used a password generator and inserted a password that was 64 characters long (OK, admittedly maybe a little overzealous!). When that didn't work tested with 'OatMeal' -- sure, dictionary attack issues, but easy to type in to test. Also only 7 characters.

Problem is nothing was telling me what the problem was (password length) until I found on page 6 of this troubleshooting guide by

Code: Select all

sudo hostapd /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf
and the output displayed an error re: the password length. (And a big thank you to hunternet93 who on Nov 23, 2012 posted that diagnostic!)

So just a suggestion to save noobies like me a week-plus of frustration.

Great Project !
Can I use my Raspberry PI now as a router instead of originally connecting my PI's ethernet cable to the D-Link Router's ethernet port that I have ?
