How to install Teltonika WiMAX UM62xx USB dongle?

Fri Apr 17, 2015 7:48 pm

Hi All,

I am trying to run Teltonika WiMAX USB dongle UM62xx on Raspberry PI B+ with raspbian:
[email protected] ~ $ uname -a
Linux redBox 3.12.35+ #733 PREEMPT Tue Jan 6 21:03:44 GMT 2015 armv6l GNU/Linux
When I put them into USB socket it presents like disk with three files on it:
[email protected] ~ $ sudo ls -l /mnt/myusb/
total 918
-rwxrwxrwx 1 500 500 72 Nov 17 2011 autorun.inf
-rwxrwxrwx 1 500 500 883382 Jun 29 2011 Teltonika_WiMAX.exe
-rwxrwxrwx 1 500 500 55420 Jun 24 2011 Teltonika_WiMAX.pkg
But I can not switch them into network mode or install contained packages. What else should I do?
This dongle is detected, installed and run automatically under Windows and Ubuntu.
Can someone help?

Thanks in advance.

By default it is seen as a mass storage or optical drive device, that is normal, you need to switch the device to modem mode, this is one of many guides written:

Retired disgracefully.....

Thank you for reply.
I installed the software USB_ModeSwitch as it is suggested and unfortuantely it looks like this modem is not supported by this software.

I checked that this modem is correctly handled by Ubuntu 14.04 and the software 'USB_ModeSwitch' is instlalled there but not inlvolved durring the setup. There must be something else needed for this.

This is not just a common 3G modem, but is very similar to hilink modems. It provides virtual server with DHCP and webservice, and creates internet interface connected to this virtual server.

Are there any other suggestions how to make this work?
I will be very grateful for any help.

Wimax is in general dead on Linux. There were some Intel cards that had drivers and that's it. There were few proprietary, but that ended too. Wimax dongle will only handle Wimax network connections. No 3G/WiFi/LTE.

Yes, but isn't it is visible by system as regular ethernet interface?

Maybe there is some raw scsi command sent directly to USB port that performs the switch to network mode?
Just without need of usb-modeswitch software.

There are no drivers and if there are no drivers the OS can't make any use of it. Switching the storage side off won't do anything as the actual device has no drivers. The product PDF states Win/OSX/Linux compatibility but who knows whats available at the moment for this old devices... On Teltonika page there are no drivers download for any WiMAX device they have.

And why a WiMAX modem would show up as Ethernet? There is no reason for such odd behavior.

It works just in that way on Ubuntu and Windows.
3G/LTE hilink modems also act in such way.

I switch my Huawei E3272 hilink to network mode just by sending raw message, exactly as described on
viewtopic.php?t=18996

I was hope that for Teltonika some similar way would be possible.
