For this project you will need an official Camera module, since this project is built on the foundations thereof.
USB support is also possible, since components are also available for that, but, this is not implemented ... yet ...

R.

Does anyone know if the new on-board Wifi on the Raspberry Pi 3 supports AP (access point) mode?

It would be absolutely killer if it did.

Hi your project is awesome. I have an embarrassing problem though. I have setup the Router on my raspberry pi and connected a device but for the life of me I can't seem to find how to get to the web interface of the router. what is the address?

I have the same problem - I don't know how to get to the web interface. Someone else said you need to use the IP address (which I know) but they didn't post the actual command. Were you able to figure it out?

Hi everyone, version 1.5 of the raspberry wireless router is ready.
You can download the new version at https://ronnyvdbr.github.io

The release is switched to raspbian jessie now.
A few bugs are fixed, and a few pages are currently offline for redesign.

More to be expected soon ... I hope.

Hi there @ronnyvdbr

I really love this concept and it worked as advertised straight out of the box.

I have been looking for a system like this, which will allow me to use a RPi as a smart router for the following scenario:

- My main router distributes wifi and ethernet to members of the household on say 192.168.11.1 -> 192.168.11.100 IP range.
- I then want to use a raspberry pi on a different subnet (say 192.168.2.1 -> 192.168.2.100) to provide a guest wifi for visitors, with the Pi managing all wifi security for the guest wifi as well as a DHCP server etc.
- The devices connected to the guest wifi are permitted access to the internet, but not to the main LAN (192.168.11.X subnet).
- It would also be great to put time restrictions on guest users and be able to block specific sites (e.g. parental controls).

Of this list of ideas above, which do you plan on implementing, and what do you think the timescales are for each item (assuming you are planning it).

Thanks, and keep up the great work.

Hi there.
Well I'm planning to implement all of these functions, and more.
But understand that this project is for amusement in my spare time which earns me 0 €.
If I would be employed for this project I would gladly measure out some definitive timescales, but unfortunately it's just a hobby project at this stage.

How is this project progressing?

I built a Raspbian Jessie dnsmasq based router that will eventually have other services added. Some services would benefit from a Web interface. Easy configuration from the built in Pi 3 Ethernet or Wifi would be excellent.

Hi, this project already incorporates a dnsmasq server, it just needs to be put in the right operation mode.

The router facilitates two operation modes, namely, bridge mode and router mode.
In router mode, dnsmasq is used to perform dns proxying and dhcp services.

this is exactly what i was looking for... its an awesome setup... i wasn't sure about having the Edimax WiFi dongle, but i just applied the old fix and it worked right away...

now how about adding some samba and nfs file sharing, i'll be doing that in the background, but to have it implemented into your webgui be really nice... :)

thanx a lot...

Thank you very much for this! I had some issues with my wifi dongles on Raspberry Pi 2, so I tried it on my Raspberry Pi 3 instead and it worked exactly as I wanted it to. You call this a hobby project, but in my eyes it looks proffessional. Thanks again :D

I tested webmin on Raspberry. Webmin works and has a million options but it cannot set up a simple bridge. The "bridge" option can only create one end of a bridge. The Bridge 2 add-on module can only handle Ethernet. You could kill webmin and network manager and wicd by solving the wlan bridge/routing configuration problems.

Has the captive portal feature been removed?
Is coovachilli still used?
