I doubt that it will be accepted without a licence file (assuming they realise that the firmware is now owned by Synaptics).

Has this also been deployed to the aarch64 kernel for Raspberry Pi OS? I'm still seeing a lot of disconnects etc for both the Pi4 and Pi400.

The instructions for installation:
Once downloaded, copy it into /lib/firmware/brcm/ - you'll need to use "sudo cp ..." because of the permissions on that directory and file. You may also want to make a backup copy of the original:

Code: Select all

$ sudo mv /lib/firmware/brcm/brcmfmac43456-sdio.clm_blob{,.bak}
$ sudo cp brcmfmac43456-sdio.clm_blob /lib/firmware/brcm/
are a little confusing, in that the highlighted code appears to be only related to the second instruction ("You may also want to make a backup copy of the original"), not the entire process.

As a result, an unsuspecting user might execute the first instruction ("Once downloaded, copy it into /lib/firmware/brcm/"), and THEN proceed with making a backup copy as shown in the highlighted code. I believe that would back up the new clm_blob file, because it would have already over-written the original (which will have been lost).

It's always wise to read the recipe through before starting to cook.
