Help connecting to a Windows network?

Fri Jan 11, 2019 3:30 pm

Hi All,

Not real familiar with Raspbian yet, I've got the newest Pi3 with all the latest updates, it gets on the 'net just fine but I am clueless when it comes to the procedures/protocols necessary to connect within my home network. My (3) Win 'puters do not "see" the Pi and Pi does not "see" them, but I can ping the Pi OK. This is thru a Netgear Nighthawk R7000 router.

On another note, my eventual plan is use the Pi as a driveway gate opener from Android and/or IOS phone(s). Would welcome opinions on the preferred apps / software / method for doing so. I'd like to keep it simple, efficient, and fairly quick (ie - no having to fumble around with multiple web pages to get to the inteerface). I've prolly looked at 20 so far and it gets more muddled the more I look...

Thanks!

Russ

By default Linux is a lot lot more secure than Windows and you specifically have to share things.

To share files on the Pi with Windows you can use a program called Samba - a walkthrough can be found https://raspberrypihq.com/how-to-share- ... pberry-pi/

You may hit an issue with Windows as Microsoft removed a communications protocol used so you may need to search SMB for a fix
Need Pi spray - these things are breeding in my house...

Well, that did the trick. I'd actually found that link before, what happened was I tried editing the conf file using a text editor and it wasn't saving thus no worky. Following the instructions explicitly worked as expected.

Thanks!
