I have a problem with squeezelite on a debian image.
I have connected an USB Speaker from JBL Pebbles.

When i set the paramter squeezelite -o default:CARD=Pebbles then the playback speed is normal and the CPU load ist 22% (for 1 song with 4min, he need 3:42 to play the song)

When i set the paramter squeezelite -o front:CARD=Pebbles,DEV=0 then the playback speed is too fast but the CPU load is 6%

surround71:CARD=Pebbles,DEV=0 - JBL Pebbles, USB Audio - 7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers

I suspect sample rate issue in there somewhere.
Maybe playing at 48 khz but the source at 44.1 khz
Perhaps changes needed in your asound.conf
