Streaming Audio to Multiple Wireless Speakers

Sun Oct 26, 2014 4:20 am

I would like to be able to stream audio from a raspberry pi to multiple wireless speakers in the same room (synchronized). I would also like to be able to control the raspberry pi with a computer or smartphone. My first instinct is to use MPD, but I am not sure if this is even possible. Does anyone know how I would go about implementing such a setup? Or if it is not possible how could I make a similar wired setup?

When you state Wireless Speakers do you mean Bluetooth Speakers ??

Wired solution try a USB Sound Card

As far as I understand, Bluetooth can only pair up one-to-one, while I would like one raspberry pi to broadcast to multiple speakers.
I was thinking more along the lines of Airplay spoofing.

FYI Bluetooth allows one Master and up to 7 Slaves in a Piconet http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piconet

Do you actually have wireless speakers already ?
I would buy a FM transmitter and several cheap radios , but a transmitter with
the necessary range/power would propably lead to unpleasant visits from the authorities.

Note if you use a digital system (WiFi/Bluetooth) each speaker will become expensive (one Pi per speaker ?) and complicated.

For a wired system you should be able to use those cheap "5.1 sourround systems" which only have analog RCA inputs. Check if you can output a
stereo signal on all 5 speakers. Install MPD on the Pi , connect Pi to amplifier.

• Don't like the board ? Missing features ? Change to the prosilver theme ! You can find it in your settings.
• Don't like to search the forum BEFORE posting 'cos it's useless ? Try googling : yoursearchtermshere site:raspberrypi.org
