Beginner: My first -frustrating- week with my Rasppi B+

Mon Aug 25, 2014 7:59 am

Here my short resume of my first - and frustrating week:

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: downloaded Raspbmc, got it to work in 30 min; spent the rest of the time trying to get Wifi running with an Edimax-stick. No success.
Friday: changed to OpenElec. Got it up and running in 30 min incl. Wifi. Basically everything on autopilot. especially nice: CEC worked from the start, i could use my tv remote to run the show. great.
But: sound with video, no sound with audio (mp3).
Saturday: research into the audio problem. no solution. downloaded wheezy. installed xbmc. got everything running in two hours. hooking it up to my living room TV I discovered: yes, it works - minus CEC. found no solution.

I might go back to the OpenElec implementation with Wifi. I rarely listen to music anyway.

But need things to be that complicated?

Regards Sound issues by default any Operating Systemit will output Sound over HDMi.

OpenElec = System Settings - System - Audio Output

Change HDMi to Analog if using 3.5mm output jack (you will need mains powered speakers)

Regards CEC in Raspbian it is feasible but needs configuring, but the Raspberry Pi is all about learning, so it may be to you frustrating but it was never meant to be a Windows PC replacement. :D
Rather than negativity think outside the box !
RPi 4B 4GB (SSD Boot)..
Asus ChromeBox 3 Celeron is my other computer...
