For faster FANART browsing you can also try to enable :

Be warned, this fanart format needs more space.

useddsfanart is already enabled by default in OpenELEC (see /usr/share/xbmc/system/advancedsettings.xml).

I second this - its a popular wifi dongle, very small and ideal for the pi and OpenELEC.

Hi,

Another short update (r11392):

http://sources.openelec.tv/tmp/image/op ... 92.tar.bz2
to update a older build without reinstalling see: http://wiki.openelec.tv/index.php?title ... g_OpenELEC
  • updated XBMC (including Thumbnail rotation and Overscan fixes) many thanks to 'gimli'
  • added experimental ALSA support, Menusounds and Music is now done via ALSA, this *maybe* provides USB speaker/soundcard support thanks to Gimli
  • Kernel linux 3.2.21 many thanks to 'bootc'
  • various other improvenments and fixes
It is again recommend to update the bootloaderfiles which you can find in the build in the folder 3rdpart/bootloader. This you can update locally via Windows/Linux or via ssh: please test your SD cards, the ALSA/Sound changes and XBMC in general and report back.

thanks
Stephan

Installed r11392 and had to revert back to r11315. Many of my video files would no longer play. The loading message would showup in the bottom right and spin forever. If I hit "stop" then xbmc would lock up and I had to kill it.

Also, music stuttered very badly.

short checked r11392 with ~5 movies (mp4, dts, ac3) and works fine so far.

another question:
the openelec boot splash is distorted a bit, seems like it was converted from 16:9 to 4:3 without correcting the aspect ratio, was that intended? i've got a notion that almost all tv's which are in use with openelec are 16:9.

In 11392, If audio output is set to analog, all menu sounds and music except videos goes via hdmi, no analog. Is it OK? Whether this will change if I connect external sound card?

trying out r11392.

cant really playback my videos anymore, tired to watch a tv series yesterday, and after 30 seconds it stutterted like crazy (720p h264). Also tried playing back my testing video which worked on old versions, couldnt start it at all. It says "Working..." for a while and then freezes (1080p h264).

Also, i tried to delete my Thumbnails folder so xbmc could fetch the pictures again (problem with scrambled pictures) and it says that i cant delete it, because /storage is read only filesystem?

i have connected my pi via hdmi to my av receiver. so i am using passthrough audio. while in menu my receiver is trying to get a lock on the sound again and again (HDMI logo is blinking on my avr) giving me a silent popping sound from my speakers. sometimes however it lookes like it gets a lock and my avr is showing the HDMI logo (not blinking) and PCM logo, when browsing the menus however, i loose the lock and it tries again (menu sounds are off).

keep up the good work, realy like openelec ;) thanks.

So far... enjoying having menu sounds again.
System stayed up all night. Had turned off the slideshow screen saver which seems to be an issue last few builds. Like it can't find the next fan art and just sticks on the current one bouncing around the screen, but if you try wake up the system it just hangs.

Tried for the first time to actually play an mp3 with 11392 (can't believe I haven't before this). Well doesn't work - here's the log ERROR: CAudioDecoder: Unable to Init Codec while loading file /storage/Site/Music/.............mp3

I pull from a mounted nfs and an smb share as well. Tried pulling from both separately. Will also copy over an mp3 to the sd card and see if that works later.

I have problems with viewing most photos with openelec. I tried several home compilations and the latest development build provided on openelec.tv. I haven't found out what is similar in the pictures that give problems. It might have to do something with size (in MB's) because pics made from an old phone gave no problems.

This is what xbmc.log says:

Code: Select all

22:36:18 T:1235555424   ERROR: COMXCoreComponent::GetInputBuffer OMX.broadcom.image_decode wait event timeout

22:36:35 T:1235555424   ERROR: COMXCoreComponent::GetInputBuffer OMX.broadcom.image_decode wait event timeout
When this happens, SSH still works but the screen freezes and it does not react to any remote control (MCE) buttons anymore.

Just rescanning my db with rvn11392 to verify the "orientation" fix, but before initiating the scan I did notice (while browsing Videos -> Files) the presence of "blank" cover art which appears in the logs as follows (the example is for the "folder.jpg" image associated with the Star Trek set directory - this image failed to appear when browsing the NFS directory in Videos->Files, but exiting then re-entering Videos->Files confirmed it was converted, but not displayed the first time):

What seems to happen is that after a fresh boot (and having previously deleted Textures13.db and Thumbnails folder), as you scroll through the list of available files/folders in Videos->Files, initially all appears well but then having scrolled through 6 or 7 pages of Thumbnails (Thumbnail view) "blank" thumbnail images begin to appear, and as you continue to scroll through the list, these blank images appear with increasing frequency suggesting that whatever the problem is, it's getting worse. Eventually, the entire GUI can become unstable, as it is no longer able to load images.

Did you try more than once? I've had this exact issue in all versions so far. It never actually freezes unless I try to stop it though. Sometimes is just says working and never loads the video. I can reset the Pi and try the same video again and it'll work though.

another note-

on all versions I've tried so far, the web based remote turns down the volume, but not up. volume pops up on the screen but no matter how many times I click the plus symbol it does nothing to change the volume level to louder.

Tried R11394 but still having problems with TV Series banners. In fact it seems to be 1 step forward and 2 back. After scraping the TV Database the artwork for "recently uploaded" episodes which appear above the "TV Series" in the main menu all appear ok and unscrambled. But if I actually select "TV Series" and get a list of the tv series then only 3 or 4 out of 13 have banners against them. Previously they were all there but some got scrambled if viewed more than once. If I go through the various views then it eventually locks up. With R11392 I found that if I rebooted then another 2 or 3 banners would appear but not all of them. The worst thing is that on both builds I couldn't play any of the files I selected. Just got the "Working" message with nothing happening and then when I select "Stop" it all locks up again.
