Watching movies and Listening to music on pi

Sat Aug 10, 2013 8:50 pm

I am new to the raspberry pi and love it! I am wondering if anyone can tell me about a program I can just download to a usb drive then transfer to the pi that just lets me watch movies and listen to music from a hard drive (on rasbian wheezy os)? I want an actual interface to work with (like quicktime or itunes) and I don't want to download it from the pi, as mine has no internet connection. And because you are probably wondering, the reason I don't just use raspbmc is because I want to use emulators and some other thing along with listening to music and wathcing movies. Thanks!

I would try to get your Pi internet-connected , it makes life
much easier ...

You can either download XBMC for Raspbian ( search a bit)
or use TBOPlayer. All other media players are too slow
for video. TBOPlayer is not very feature-rich , too.

Hmmm sounds like xbmc with airplay enabled.

where are you intending to stream the music from?

If iphone etc then airplay in built in, if android then doubletwist could help or bubbleupnp!!

Seems like more information is required about what you really want to do.

That makes no difference.

Install raspbmc or openelec from the NOOBS SD download (or from the respective websites).

I think you will have to connect the Pi to the internet for set-up, but after that you can run it to just play local files from SD or USB storage.
