Streaming Macbook Media to my RASPBMC PI

Mon Jun 17, 2013 3:24 pm

I hate to open new threads for what I assume is a topic that has been covered, but for the life of me I cant seem to find a tutorial for the complete noob.
I'm looking for a detailed explanation or step by step on how to link my Rasp PI running RASPBMC to my old Mackbook running OSX, which currently houses my media. When looking at RASPBMC>Video>Get files I do not see either of my macs showing up so i assume I need to link them via some form of SMB, FTP...Both of my macs are able to identify the RaspPi as being connected to the network as a device, so I know its not a network issue.

I have been searching for a few days now with no success. It seems this must be such a simple task that nobody has written a step by step, like they did on installing RASPBMC or Wheezy, etc.

On a separate note, I have read that people are able to access Amazon Prime media content. If you have a link to a good tutorial on setting that up I would also appreciate it. Now back to searching...

Thanks in advance for any help you might be able to provide.

If you have a spare SD card, you could try writing an Openelec image to it. OE shows up fine in the Finder on our mac's, & we can copy, update OE etc. just fine.

At least then you'd know if Raspbmc is where the problem lies, or in your mac setup.

If you run SMBup on the mac you should be able to access it using the xbmc gui in videos>files>add videos>Windows network (SMB), or you could try manual mounting in the terminal, something like this.
