IR Receiver for Apple remote?

Thu Feb 21, 2013 10:38 am

I'm wondering if there are any IR Receivers that work with the Pi?

My GPIO connection is already taken up so it must be USB unless there is another connector that works?

I'm trying to achieve a completely keyboardless setup, my Pi does have a button that i can program to execute commands like start programs and shutdown but i need to be able to navigate around RaspBMC.

Any suggestions?

Actually a good idea would look pretty slick.

A logitech harmony and some kind of ir receiver would work!

Interesting device. :)

Is this like a HID devices that simulates keyboard and mouse communications by the press of the remote control??

You can program virtually any remote with an endless set of keystrokes - I program mine on a Win 7 PC using the standard keyboard profile - then just plug it into the Pi. Xbian just accepts it as a 'keyboard'.

Take a look at the Targus range.

If you want to use the official Apple remote then try a separate IR receiver like Twisted Melon's Manta TR1 Apple Remote & Mira USB IR Receivers - Manta Remote Hardware from Twisted Melon facetime app

You could also use the integral bluetooth in conjunction with a bluetooth remote presenter (Targus again)....or maybe you would like to use your iOS device with the Apple Remote App installed.
