XBMC - but which!

Tue Feb 05, 2013 6:34 pm

Hi all,

Ok tried Raspbmc - all fine but when I reboot just get it continually rebooting no matter what I do and have to flash a brand new image!

Openelec - doing nothing is stuck at 94% cpu - due to this the wifi connection is flakey - assume that task just ain't getting enough of the cpu.

Is it just me? - is there no stable /reasonable cpu usage around???

Cheers

my choice of poison is to build it on Raspbian following their instructions here

http://www.raspbian.org/RaspbianXBMC

But I've also heard that there is a deb package that you can install, instructions are here

http://michael.gorven.za.net/raspberrypi/xbmc

I can't vouch for how well the deb package works, but I've been fairly satisfied with building it myself (though it does take a *really* long time to do so)

Thanks,

I just grabbed the latest .img as that seemed the nice easy route. I am confused though how a build will differ to the .img????

Cheers

hmm... I may have been unclear. The .img is just the Raspbian OS (no XBMC), once you install the Raspbian OS and expand the rootfs to use the whole card (you'll see that option on first boot), you can either build XBMC yourself or download an installer package. The installer package is significantly quicker, but will ultimately include the features someone else decided are worth including. Building it yourself is much more complicated and takes a lot more time, but gives you the option to include as much or as little as you decide.

.img = Express Setup
build = Custom Setup
I'm only wearing black until they find something darker.

Yeah I tried openelec.
The cpu usage was so hi the wifi became flakey.
Will look at Raspbian (read up on the looping issue ; there are a few things to try) again and Xbian.

Cheers

Can't fix the raspbmc looping bug.
Xbian now just gives a black screen.

Tried 3 different SD cards!! - psu is good!

Hi,

Release version. The guys at Xbian are giving me some 'experimental' pointers.
Xbian after install if I do nothing and shutdown then reboot seems fine - starts every time.
But once I add music, wifi etc. just wont reboot :(

+1 for Raspbmc, I like how this one works.

Xbian has worked perfectly on the two I've installed it on.
