Best file system for remote share

Mon Jan 07, 2013 5:04 pm

This might not be a trully RPI question but here it goes. I'm planing on using Raspbmc + transmission for my mediacenter/download appliance but since i'm a noob with *nix, I was wondering about what would be the best file system for my 1TB 2.0 usb disk! Key features is space optimization and read speed I guess...

Ext3,4, XFS,JFS? (Maybe one of them isnt supported by debian or RPI, sorry about my ignorance...)

The best sharing method maybe should be samba right?... although I'm usually on osx (main computer)

1) ext4
2) samba
3) expect the RPI to give a max speed of 8MBps, not the 125MBps you might get from more pricy hardware.
